Abusua Foundation is a local non-profit in Cape Coast, Ghana, which partners with community entities to encourage youth development and cross-cultural understanding.

Qualifications

We are looking for people with a proven interest in journalism or community activism. Experience in radio journalism is not required, but is preferred. Exceptions have been made in cases where initiative and interest are abundantly present. (Start dates flexible and are on a rolling basis)

Job Description

We are looking for interns to volunteer with 2 local radio stations in the Cape Coast area of Ghana (Ahomka FM and ATL FM) on a rolling basis.

As an intern you will be part of a team of professionals at local radio station in Cape Coast, Ghana (either ATL FM or Ahomka FM), working to create and implement radio programming. You will be involved in scriptwriting, conducting interviews, and involved in all that goes into producing news and studio based programmes. Duties may include reporting stories on air and conducting interviews.

Objectives of the placement:
• Assist the radio station in the creation and implementation of its programmes.

• Advocate local and national issues, such as human rights, politics, civil liberties, social enterprise, gender issues and economic development

• Foster skill transfer between the interns and the radio station.

Time commitment:
• Our internships are generally no shorter than 6 weeks time (although exceptions can and have been made). This internship can last up to four months.

Academic Credit:
• Many universities have given academic credit for our internships.

Fees:
1) Programme Fee: All interns are housed at the Abusua Foundation house, and are provided with meals, accommodation, airport pick-up and drop-off, orientation and 24/7 emergency care support for a flat fee of $120 a week (the is the Programme Fee).

2) Confirmation Fee: This non-refundable $500 fee secures the placement. It also pays for the placement set-up (going to the host organization and explaining the intern's background, etc.), donation to host organization (for their time teaching and training you), airport pick-up (getting the intern from Accra to Cape Coast, getting the staff member to and from Cape Coast, etc.).
