About the company
The overall mission of the NGO Niños de Guatemala (NDG) is to help build a better future for Guatemala. NDG aims to do this through providing Guatemalan disadvantaged children and adults with education and opportunities to develop themselves. NDG has three golden principles at the heart, which hold the future of the organization, and which makes it so unique: self-sufficiency, local community and education. To achieve this NDG consists of three units: 1) The School ’Escuela Urbana Mixta Nuestro Futuro’, located in Ciudad Vieja, 2) the Volunteer Centre in Antigua and 3) the NGO as the umbrella organization. To continue its work, the Volunteer Centre of NDG is looking for a new Fundraising and Development Intern for 40 hours per week.
Qualifications
- A responsible and independent work attitude;
- Willingness to develop and learn;
- Posses excellent communication skills;
- Dedication to NDG’s mission and oriented to its goals;
- Completion of at least two years of university courses (in relevant field: marketing, business, public administration, non-profit management, public relations or communications);
- Fluency in English;
- Intermediate Spanish proficiency or better;
- Ability to support oneself financially for the duration of the internship;
- Background with public relations is strongly preferred.
Job Description
This position involves promoting the organization’s image internationally. Currently, Niños de Guatemala has a strong presence in the Netherlands, but wider international recognition is a high priority for the organization.
The International Public Relations Intern will work for the Manager of Operations of the Volunteer Center. This position will be starting in January 2011.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining a blog that keeps subscribers up to date on the happenings of NDG and the intern’s experiences. This may also assist him/her to keep track of the accomplishments made throughout his/her internship (especially helpful for those who must submit internship reports to their universities);
- Start contact with international media to interest them in publishing information about NDG;
- Coordinate and upload new text, image and media content to our website;
- Writing press releases and articles about NDG;
- Actively networking with publications and organizations abroad that can support, feature or recommend Niños de Guatemala;
- Develop a plan for past volunteers to be more active ambassadors for NDG in their home countries;
- Investigate the possibility of establishing NDG support offices in some countries;
- Attend and participate in presentations, meetings, media sessions and brainstorming sessions as directed;
- Other projects might include website development and graphic design tasks.
