About the company
Prime Trust acts as an intermediary between women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and commercial banks; it assists small groups of women to first open a saving account and later, take out a low interest-rate loan. Prime Trust visits women’s Self-Help Groups to conduct social awareness campaigns related to HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, nutrition and health, women’s equality, and children’s rights. We also serve women in SHGs that don't recieve loans, but who are willing to be educated. Prime Trust runs two Remedial Schools in slums outside of Pondicherry to help provide extra schooling for extremely poor children who receive an education that is sorely lacking.
Qualifications
College graduate or student.
Job Description
Interns at Prime Trust do a variety of projects related to their interests. Some are self-directed, or stem from a need to conduct research for their degree. We welcome all sorts of interns and all initiative from these interns! We provide lodgings for a small fee, and a chance to work directly with grassroots women's organizations in remote areas of India where poverty is rampant. Come to us with initiative and energy! Here are two examples of projects that an intern can do here:
Women's Empowerment Inter: Interns and staff together provide educational outreach programs to women in these groups on issues such as HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, nutrition, and women's rights and empowerment.
Slum Children Educational Outreach: As an intern, you would assist in our two remedial schools teaching English. Volunteers also actively work at a local orphanage, and at our day care center for the children of women in self-help groups. This day care center enables these women to start jobs that give them financial independence.
