The overall mission of the NGO Niños de Guatemala (NDG) is to help build a better future for Guatemala. NDG aims to do this through providing Guatemalan disadvantaged children and adults with education and opportunities to develop themselves. NDG has three golden principles at the heart, which hold the future of the organization, and which makes it so unique: self-sufficiency, local community and education. To achieve this NDG consists of three units: 1) The School ’Escuela Urbana Mixta Nuestro Futuro’, located in Ciudad Vieja, 2) the Volunteer Centre in Antigua and 3) the NGO as the umbrella organization. To continue its work, the Volunteer Centre of NDG is looking for a new Fundraising and Development Intern for 40 hours per week.
Qualifications
- A responsible and independent work attitude;
- Willingness to develop and learn;
- Posses excellent communication skills;
- Dedication to NDG’s mission and oriented to its goals;
- Completion of at least two years of university courses (in relevant field: marketing, business, public administration, non-profit management, public relations or communications. Social Work and Human Services students will be accepted if they have an interest in fundraising);
- Fluency in English;
- Background with fundraising is strongly preferred;
- Ability to support oneself financially for the duration of the internship;
- Intermediate Spanish proficiency or better.
Job Description
The main goal of the Fundraising and Development Intern is to develop the fundraising program of NDG and create a more international base of donors.
The Fundraising and Development Intern will work for the Manager of Operations of the Volunteer Centre.This position will be starting January 2011.
Responsibilities
- Development of direct fundraising ideas, such as special events to be held locally and internationally;
- New merchandise development and creation of a PDF catalogue of current items to be sold on the website;
- Network with local businesses and potential donors in Antigua to develop ongoing partnerships;
- Prepare standard information packages to send to possible donors;
- Research and document prospective funding sources including foundations, potential sponsors, grants, and other potential donors of cash, materials, and/or services;
- Assist with fundraising and publicity campaigns (solicitations, sponsor relations, follow-up calls, etc.);
- Write a report on the project with all contact details and summaries of all activities completed during the internship;
- Start / update a fundraising database ;
- Develop fidelity schemes for donors so that they will keep supporting the charity;
- Plan and lead at least one large-scale local fundraising event in Antigua.
