MICC Projects (operating model) MICC is flexible enough to adopt the best collaboration approach according to the project needs Example of project-Tour Management System: About the Customer : - Customer is a travel wholesaler specialized in Europe and Russia. At the beginning it was a family business, but actually it is the Spanish greatest tour operator for Europe destinations. - Customer has district offices in Madrid, Bilbao, Barcelona, Valencia, La Coruña and Sevilla. It has more than 200 employees and relies on about 260 tourist guides fully specialized in Europe. - The sales figures of Customer in 2005 were about 100 million US Dollars and more than 100.000 people hired its services. The Business Challenge: - Customer had a client/server technology system called LOGO GCM for the management of business procedures. - That system was developed using a third party programatic language called LINC. - During recent years, Customer has had a lot of problems with the maintenance and evolution of this system because of its high costs and its limited usefulness for a growth company with an increasing business. - Besides that, the LOGO GCM was developed using an obsolete and not scalable technology that prevented reutilization of business strategies into a new architectural environment. The opportunity: - In order to avoid several and different problems encountered in the past, customer was looking for a more efficient system, based in standard, scalable and maintainable technologies. - Since it has many district offices spread all over the Spanish territory and works with tourist guides in different European countries, customer was also looking for a browser-based system available through its intranet. - The overall target was to have a flexible architecture, suitable for the integration of additional components and new technologies in the future The Oracle Solution: Oracle Consulting proposed a full and complete environment based in the following features: - A three-tiered architecture with Oracle Application Server for the middle tier and Oracle 9i for the data tier. - A new J2EE system called TMS (Tour Management System) developed using Oracle JHeadstart 10g to reduce the time-costs and increase the productivity of the development process - Customer had a working procedure that impacted directly on its system. It had a lot of heavy business processes that caused performance and efficiency problems. To avoid those problems, these processes were redefined and developed as database packages and triggers. Adequate indexes were created to access the data in a more efficient way. - In addition, customer needed to generate a lot of reports to be sent to Hotels, guides, etc in different European destinations. For that purpose, Oracle proposed the use of Oracle Reports as the reporting tool. o The intern’s main tasks would include full assistance to the senior consulting members and engagement managers in our client projects.
