Trainee profile: We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate the following qualities:

+ Recent university graduates with a minimum of 4 years of study and above average degrees (ideally at MSc level) in the field of industiral engineering, engineering, business studies, management or similar

+ No more than 1.5 years of professional work experience (excl. internships)

+ Mature, professional personality with realistic goals and good communication skills

+ Fluency in English (additional languages a plus)

+ Flexible team player

+ Global mindset, social and intercultural competency
Description: The Global Trainee Program for Corporate Development includes assignments in the 4 departments reporting directly to the head of Corporate Development, who sponsors the program. Trainees will learn functional aspects in the area of Mergers & Acquisitions, Operational Excellence, Supply Chain Management and Corporate Strategy. In addition they will be exposed to a variety of situations requiring general business management skills. In addition to on-the-job learning the program is accompanied by further training in the areas of personal development, intercultural awareness, technology and ABB specific culture & business requirements.

The GTP for Corporate Development lasts 24 months and comprises four different assignments
Assignments are within the four departments reporting directly to the head of Corporate Development. During the course of the program we will ensure that you will both gain valuable work experience in our offices at ABB Headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, as well as in other international locations. Depending on the recruiting period assignments can start in any one of the four departments and last 6 months each:

Mergers & Acquisitions
Mergers & Acquisitions is the competence center for the ABB Group for Mergers, Acquisitions, Divestments and Postmerger Integration. ABB makes a considerable number of strategic projects/alliances, acquisitions, divestitures and investments every year. This function has the responsibility to ensure that these activities are successfully executed with maximum speed and value for the Group. We are a dedicated team of professionals working in teams together with the Divisions and other Group Functions to create significant value for ABB.

Supply Chain Management
Group Fuction Supply Chain Management includes a series of common processes and tools as well as global sourcing activities in order to fully utilize ABB's purchasing power.

Operational Excellence
Operational Excellence ensures that ABB maintains and can steadily increase its quality and operational excellence, both towards our customers and with regards to our internal processes and standards.

Corporate Strategy
ABB's Group Strategy is aimed at maintaining and increasing the company’s position as a leader in power and automation technologies and supports profitable market share in key territories around the world. Within Corporate Strategy the following three work stream categories play a vital role:

* Business strategies (addressing specific industrial opportunities)
* Market strategies (covering defined geographical regions) and
* Strategic foundation (how the business works, establishing a sustainable cost base)

Below you will find an overview of key learning points and tasks you may expect during the course of your trainee program:

Mergers & Acquisitions
You will gain unique transaction experience in a dedicated and motivated M&A team. As the task is highly analytical by nature, your analytical capabilities will be put to test and you will have the opportunity to transform your theoretical financial knowledge to practical applications. The objective for the assignment within M&A is to obtain the basic understanding of the steps in an acquisition or divestment process and develop key skills relating to the execution of a transaction.

Supply Chain Management
Your assignment work may include, but is not limited to:

* providing data analyses of ABB external spend patterns,
* supporting commodity strategy team leaders with analyses and meeting facilitation,
* working with local ABB units to implement ongoing Supply Chain initiatives,
* assisting management with presentation preparation,
* other diverse projects.

An assignment in Group SCM is an excellent opportunity to experience our unique global footprint and will aid in building a worldwide network within ABB.

Operational Excellence
The following are areas you may be working in:

* Supplier Quality
Support development of ABB’s capability to measure key supplier performance metrics re: on-time delivery and quality.
* Project Management
Support assessment of Project Management training and certification program re: helping to determine root causes of margin erosion.
* Operational Development
Assigned to work on one of numerous ODG improvement initiatives; e.g. Global Footprint planning and analyses

You will gain a basic understanding of ABB’s Quality and Operational Excellence business objectives, priorities, plans, and deliverables as well as a solid understanding of how Quality and Operational Excellence initiatives can improve ABB’s business performance and marketplace competitiveness.

Corporate Strategy
Typical tasks for a trainee encompass:

* Research and analytical support for the team,
* Improving regular products the function provides e.g. financial benchmarks, portfolio analysis, business intelligence, macro-economic models,
* Scanning and evaluating potential acquisition targets,
* Supporting the function in orchestrating programs that improve the growth or cost base of the corporation,
* Collaboration on ad hoc deep dives that answer to top management requests for clarification.

This particular assignment will give you insight into the corporate structure and architecture of the Group, the properties of our businesses and the value and commonalities of the various portfolio elements. The program conveys knowledge and hands on experience about means and methods of business development, strategic planning and monitoring, as well as business intelligence.
